The Lord's Place Named One of the
 Best Places to Work!

On behalf of the Board of Directors of The Lord's Place, I am proud to announce that Florida Trend magazine has named The Lord's Place one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For in Florida. We congratulate the leadership of The Lord's Place, led by CEO Diana Stanley, with special acknowledgement to Human Resources Director Jan Phillips and Executive Assistant for Human Resources and Administration Laura Allianic.

The Lord's Place is the only non-profit business included among the top 100 Florida companies recognized. The agency, headquartered in West Palm Beach, is a leader in serving the needs of the homeless in Palm Beach County, with innovative programs and services dedicated to ending the cycle of homelessness. The agency has a staff of 93. Notably, 57 percent of new hires this year are formerly homeless clients.

We on the Board are so pleased to see this latest recognition of the extraordinary leadership and staff of The Lord's Place, who all work so passionately every day to meet the needs of the homeless families in our community.

Venture Philanthropy at The Lord's Place

SEED stands for Social Enterprise Employment Development. The Lord’s Place CEO Diana Stanley explains the concept: “Through our innovative SEED Fund program, we’re taking a venture capital approach to job training and employment for the homeless. Our goal is to use the fund to help formerly homeless individuals gain sustainable employment through our current and future social enterprises and to deliver a strong financial return to our community. As the homeless leave their lives of desperation and hopelessness and find meaningful employment, the return on investment to the public is significant through a dramatic reduction in expensive public and private service costs, as well as an increase to the tax base.”

The Lord’s Place is pleased to announce that the SEED Fund has already received a $250,000 commitment fromThe Anne Goss Foundation. “We are proud to be the anchor investor in this unique venture philanthropy vehicle to support entrepreneurship within the nonprofit sector,” said Richard L. Cosnotti, managing trustee of The Anne Goss Foundation. The goals of the SEED Fund are to raise $1 million in private venture philanthropy dollars with an anticipated return of $2.22 to the community for every dollar investedin the life-changing programs for the homeless. This translates into a 122 percent return on investment.

According to The Lord’s Place Board Member and Chair of its Advancement Committee Cornelia Thornburgh, “These benefits accrue to the community through reductions in emergency room visits, law enforcement and judicial system activities and public entitlements, while increasing the tax base with more people paying taxes through employment. Instead of using the standard term of return on investment, we are using social return on investment and a 122 percent SROI is a healthy return for any investor.”
